The finding and its boundary
The authors reported improved bypass flow and attenuation of the induced syndrome. The experimental obstruction does not establish therapy for human Budd–Chiari syndrome.
Pentadecapeptide BPC 157 resolves suprahepatic occlusion of the inferior caval vein, Budd-Chiari syndrome model in rats.

- What this cannot establish
- The experimental obstruction does not establish therapy for human Budd–Chiari syndrome.
What was actually tested
Rats with suprahepatic inferior caval vein ligation. The investigators measured collateral pathways, pressures, organ injury and biochemical markers. The authors reported improved bypass flow and attenuation of the induced syndrome.
The detail that changes the takeaway
This model blocks venous outflow from the liver, which is different from blocking arterial inflow. The distinction determines the mechanism being proposed. A result described as restored circulation in this preparation cannot be generalized to all causes of liver disease or to a retail prescription.
How far the result travels
The experimental obstruction does not establish therapy for human Budd–Chiari syndrome.
A useful comparison
BPC-157 after bile-duct ligation examines liver injury, fibrosis-related tissue findings, pressure and biochemical measures. Here, the measured endpoint was collateral pathways, pressures, organ injury and biochemical markers. Those outcomes belong to separate experiments; one is not a replication or a human confirmation of the other. Compare that distinction with the BPC-157 and experimental pancreatitis: many organ measurements are still one rat model appraisal.
